Male skin behaves differently

This is not a marketing line, it is a practical one. Male skin is thicker, has more collagen and more active oil glands, and daily shaving means it is being physically abraded several times a week.

That changes things. Thicker skin often needs different settings to get the same result. Ingrown hairs and shaving irritation are their own category. Congestion tends to be more stubborn. And men typically present later, when a concern has been building for years rather than months.

It also means results can take a little longer to show, which is worth knowing at the start rather than being disappointed at week six.

What men usually come in about

  1. 01

    Looking tired

Under-eye shadowing, dullness, and the general sense of looking more worn out than you feel. Frequently the thing that finally prompts a call.

Usually: a mix of skin quality and structure. Imaging makes it specific rather than vague.

  2. 02

    Texture and congestion

Rough skin, enlarged pores, persistent blackheads across the nose and forehead, ingrown hairs along the jaw and neck.

Usually: responds well and reasonably quickly, and is among the more satisfying things to treat.

  3. 03

    Sun damage

Years of it, often from work or sport rather than deliberate sun. Uneven tone, rough patches, visible vessels, and the odd spot worth checking.

Usually: treatable, and anything that looks like it needs a medical opinion gets one.

If something on your skin looks like it should be checked rather than treated, we will tell you and point you in the right direction. That comes before anything cosmetic.

What the appointment involves

  • Imaging, so what is happening is on a screen rather than described
  • Sun damage, including what is sitting below the surface
  • Shaving irritation and ingrown hairs, if relevant
  • Skin thickness and how it will respond to treatment
  • Downtime you can actually take, given work and travel
  • A plan in writing, with what it costs, before you decide anything

No packages and no commitment on the day. You will get a written plan and a straight answer about what is worth doing, including anything we think you can skip.

Treatments we use

The same technology, with settings and sequencing adjusted for thicker skin and for the fact that most people cannot take a week off.

  • Pico LaserSun damage, tone and texture
  • Morpheus8Deeper remodelling for skin quality and definition
  • SofwaveNon-invasive tightening with no downtime
  • HydraFacial SyndeoCongestion and ingrown hairs, no downtime
  • Alma HarmonyXLSun damage and visible vessels
  • SkinPen MicroneedlingTexture and scarring
  • Healite II LEDCalming irritation and supporting healing
  • Cosmetic injectablesA category discussed with Dr Chahal where relevant

Several of these have no meaningful downtime at all, which for most people is the deciding factor.

Fitting it around work

  1. Week 0Assessment

Imaging, a plan, and a clear view of what each option would mean for your week.

  2. No downtimeStraight back to it

Several options mean walking out and going back to work with nothing visible.

  3. A day or twoPlan it for a Thursday

Some treatments mean looking flushed briefly. Timed well, it is a weekend rather than a problem.

  4. Months 3–6Where it shows

Collagen-based results build slowly. This is the window where other people notice without knowing why.

Skin texture and tone

Nobody needs to know

A common concern, and a fair one. The aim here is not to look like you have had something done. It is to look less tired, which is a different thing.

Most of what we would suggest works gradually. There is rarely a moment where you appear noticeably altered, which is usually exactly what men are after.

And if you would rather not sit in a waiting room, say so when you book. It is a small clinic and it is easily managed.

Common questions

Do many men come in?

More each year, and a good proportion arrive because someone else in the family suggested it. It is unremarkable to us.

Will it be obvious?

That is generally the point of the plan. Most of what suits men here works gradually and reads as looking rested rather than treated.

How much downtime is there really?

It depends on the treatment, and it is one of the first things we work out. Several options have none. We will tell you honestly rather than downplay it.

Does shaving affect treatment?

It can, and we will talk about timing around it. Ingrown hairs and shaving irritation are also treatable in their own right.

Do I have to commit to a package?

No. We do not sell packages. You get a written plan and decide in your own time.

What if something needs a doctor rather than a treatment?

We will say so. Anything that looks like it needs medical assessment gets referred rather than treated cosmetically.
