Most skin concerns have more than one cause

Pigmentation that returns every summer. Congestion that never quite clears. Texture and dullness that no longer respond to the products that used to work.

These are rarely one problem with one fix — which is usually why a shelf of products, or a single treatment booked on impulse, does not hold. Something helps for a while, then the skin drifts back.

A complexion consultation is the step that comes first. Your dermal therapist assesses your skin properly, explains what they are seeing, and builds a plan in a sensible order — so your time and money go into the things most likely to make a difference to your skin.

Concerns we can assess

During your consultation, your dermal therapist may discuss:

  • Pigmentation, melasma and sun damage
  • Acne, congestion and breakouts
  • Acne scarring and uneven texture
  • Redness, flushing and sensitivity
  • Enlarged or visible pores
  • Dullness and loss of radiance
  • Fine lines and early signs of ageing
  • Loss of firmness and skin laxity
  • Dryness and a compromised skin barrier
  • Skin preparation before an event or milestone
  • Your current skincare, and whether it is working for you

Your therapist works within their scope of practice. Where a concern would be better addressed medically, they will tell you and can arrange a consultation with Dr Amy Chahal.

What happens in your consultation

  1. Your skin history

What you have used, what has worked, what has irritated your skin, and what you would like to change. We also cover sun exposure, medications, and hormonal factors, because these frequently drive how skin behaves.

  2. Skin analysis and imaging

Your therapist assesses your skin in detail, including imaging that shows what is happening beneath the surface. This is often the point where things start to make sense.

  3. What we are seeing, explained

The findings, in plain language: which of your concerns are related to each other, which tend to respond quickly, and which take time and consistency.

  4. Your plan, in order

A staged plan covering both in-clinic treatment and what you do at home, sequenced so the things likely to make the biggest difference come first. You take it home in writing.

  5. Your skincare, reviewed

We go through what you are currently using, what is worth keeping, and what is doing nothing. You leave with a suggested skincare plan — what to use, when, and in what order. Skincare is often the part that determines whether in-clinic treatment holds.

  6. Booking your first step

If treatment is appropriate and you would like to begin, we book it before you leave. In some cases treatment can be carried out on the same day.

Treatments your therapist may discuss

TCMA is a doctor-led clinic, and our dermal therapists work with a full range of medical-grade technology. Depending on what your assessment shows, your plan may draw on:

Not every treatment suits every skin. Your plan will only include what is appropriate for your skin, your goals and the downtime you can accommodate.

Why a therapist-led skin consultation

  • Dermal therapists qualified in skin science, working to a clinical protocol
  • Assessment and imaging before any recommendation is made
  • Medical-grade technology, inside a doctor-led clinic
  • Honest sequencing — including when the right answer is to wait
  • Clear discussion of cost, downtime and realistic timeframes
  • A direct pathway to Dr Amy Chahal where medical input is appropriate

About the deposit

A deposit secures your appointment and is redeemable against treatment or products on the day. It protects your therapist’s time, and it means the appointments we hold are kept for people who intend to use them.

Common questions

How long does the consultation take?

Allow around 45 minutes. If you are having treatment on the same day, allow additional time depending on what is planned.

Should I come without makeup?

Clean skin is ideal, as it gives the most accurate imaging. If that is not practical, we will cleanse your skin at the clinic before we assess it.

Can I have treatment on the same day?

Often, yes — if the treatment is appropriate for your skin, and you have had time to consider it. There is never an expectation that you decide on the day.

How is this different from a consultation with Dr Chahal?

This consultation is with a dermal therapist and focuses on skin health, skin quality and the condition of your complexion. If you are considering cosmetic injectables or a cosmetic procedure, the TCMA Strategy Session with Dr Amy Chahal is the right starting point. If you are not sure which you need, book this one and we will guide you.

I am pregnant or breastfeeding. Can I still come?

Yes. Please tell us when you book so your therapist can plan an assessment and a homecare approach suitable for you.

I have had treatments elsewhere. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Bring whatever details you have — what was used, when, and how your skin responded. It genuinely helps us plan.
