How to Prepare for Your ZO Chemical Peel

You will not need to worry too much about preparing for your ZO chemical peel treatment. Come in with a clean, makeup-free face and you will be ready to start your treatment. We do always recommend avoiding excessive sun exposure and other abrasive topical treatments leading up to your peel just to avoid unnecessary discomfort during the procedure.

After the time has elapsed, the peel will be removed, and the treatment is considered complete. We will help you make sure your face is clean of the treatment solution. The entire process will take between 30 to 50 minutes, depending on the level of correction being made and which peel you are having performed.

The ZO Chemical Peel Process

Summary:

Your face will be cleansed before the treatment to help prevent infections and breakouts.
The peel formulation will be applied to the skin and left for the appropriate amount of time.
You will be able to choose from one of our six ZO peel options, based on your goals.
The entire treatment will usually take between 30 and 50 minutes to complete.

In order to avoid the chance of infection or breakouts from developing, we will make sure to thoroughly cleanse your skin prior to the procedure being performed. Once that is complete, the peel solution will be applied to your skin. There are six primary ZO chemical peel options that we offer, depending on your unique needs and aesthetic goals:

ZO Chemical Peel Results

After the treatment is complete, your face will begin to peel for a few days. As the peeling clears up, you should be able to notice some immediate improvement in whatever condition you are looking to address. However, the final results won’t come until about 25 to 30 days after the peel was performed. Typically, results last for a month or two, at which point, you will need to have additional maintenance procedures performed to achieve optimal results.

Following a ZO chemical peel, it’s normal for patients to experience varying degrees of redness, stinging, itching, mild swelling, and skin flaking or peeling. These signs reflect the skin’s natural response to the treatment and typically subside as the skin heals.

However, there are additional risks associated with chemical peels, including infections, delayed healing, textural changes in the skin, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, and distinct lines of demarcation where the peel was applied. Are There Any Post-Treatment Instructions to Follow?

If there are any specific instructions for your unique case, our office will make sure to make you aware of them well before the treatment day. Generally, though, instructions are fairly straightforward: avoid abrasive skin treatments until fully healed, and do your best to wear a high SPF sunscreen to avoid sun damage to the newly surfaced skin — it will be much more susceptible to sunburns and UV damage.
