Your First Wrinkle Consultation: What to Expect at TCMA Sydney

What happens at your first consultation for facial lines? Prepare for your visit to TCMA in Surry Hills, understand the fees and choose Dr Amy Chahal or a dermal therapist for your concerns.

medical aesthetic consultation

A conversation about what matters to you.

If you are noticing facial lines and wondering where to start, your first appointment is a chance to understand your options. At TCMA in Surry Hills, Sydney, Dr Amy Chahal can assess your concerns and help you decide what fits your features, priorities and longer-term plan.

You do not need to arrive with a treatment in mind. You can ask questions, discuss what you hope to achieve and take time to consider the advice.

Choose your consultation

Before your first wrinkle consultation

Think about what you have noticed and what you would like help understanding. It may be one area, changes in skin quality or several concerns that you want to consider together. Bring details of previous cosmetic procedures, your skincare routine, medicines, allergies and relevant medical history.

Tell the team about upcoming events, travel and the recovery time you can allow. Share any previous treatment reactions and whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning pregnancy so recommendations can be reviewed appropriately. Ask the clinic about preparation rather than changing medicines or following a generic online checklist.

What happens during the appointment?

1. Understand your concerns

Discuss what matters to you, what you would like to preserve and the changes you are considering. Your budget and preferences belong in this conversation too. You should feel able to explain your goals without pressure to proceed.

2. Assess the whole picture

Dr Amy considers your medical history, skin and facial movement alongside your concerns. Facial lines, skin texture and structural changes may need different approaches. The aim is a recommendation that makes sense for you, rather than choosing a procedure from a name or a photograph alone.

3. Discuss options and make a plan

The consultation covers appropriate options, likely limitations, relevant risks, costs and any recovery or follow-up involved. That discussion may include skincare, suitable procedures, a staged plan or leaving things as they are. Ask what an option can reasonably achieve and what it cannot address.

For several concerns, a Strategy Session gives the discussion a wider focus. A thoughtful plan can support ageing well while keeping your features and preferences central. See our guide to how the face ages.

Will you have treatment on the same day?

Same-day treatment may be possible, depending on assessment, suitability, preparation and availability. It is not guaranteed by booking a consultation. You may prefer to reflect on the advice or arrange treatment for another day.

Before any procedure, make sure you understand the proposed treatment, its risks and alternatives, the total cost and the follow-up arrangements. Your consent should follow that discussion. Results vary and cannot be guaranteed.

After the consultation or treatment

Keep the plan and any instructions you are given. If you proceed with a procedure, follow its specific aftercare and agree when your response should be reviewed. Advice about exercise, skincare, makeup and recovery depends on what was done and your circumstances.

Contact your treating team if you are concerned about your recovery. Do not assume a symptom is normal because a general article describes it that way. You can reach TCMA on (02) 8074 1559.

First consultation: common questions

What happens at a first wrinkle consultation?

Dr Amy discusses your concerns and medical history, assesses your skin and facial movement, and explains suitable options, their limitations, risks and costs. The appointment helps you decide on a next step; it does not commit you to treatment.

Which consultation should I book?

Choose a Focused Consultation with Dr Amy for one particular concern, or a Strategy Session for several concerns and longer-term planning. For skincare and complexion treatment planning, you can book a Complexion Consultation with a dermal therapist.

How much does a consultation cost?

A Focused Consultation with Dr Amy is $150 nonredeemable. A 60-minute Strategy Session is $250 nonredeemable. A Complexion Consultation with a dermal therapist requires a $100 deposit redeemable against treatment, not skincare products. Treatment fees are separate.

Can I have treatment on the same day?

Sometimes, depending on assessment, suitability, preparation and availability. Booking a consultation does not guarantee same-day treatment. Tell the team what you would like to discuss when requesting your appointment.

Do I need to choose a treatment before I book?

No. Bring your questions and the concerns you would like assessed. Your consultation is the place to discuss suitable options and decide whether to proceed, wait or make no change.

What should I do after treatment?

Follow the written advice provided for your specific procedure and contact your treating team with concerns. Recovery, review timing and results vary, so general online advice should not replace your individual instructions.
