Fine lines and early ageing
Doctor-led assessment · Surry Hills, Sydney
The first lines that stay put after your face relaxes. This is the stage where small, well-chosen decisions do the most work — and where it is easy to be sold far more than you need.

- 013D imaging, so you can see what is actually changing
- 02A doctor-led clinic with a qualified dermal therapy team
- 03A plan that includes what to leave alone for now

Lines that move, and lines that stay
Pull a face in the mirror and you will see one set of lines. Let it relax completely and you will see another, usually fainter set that stays put. Those two behave differently and want different things.
Lines that only appear with movement are about muscle. Lines still visible at rest are about the skin itself — collagen, hydration, sun damage, and years of the skin folding in the same place.
Most people arrive somewhere in between, with a bit of both. Which is which determines whether the sensible answer is skin treatments, a conversation about something else, or honestly just better sun protection and time.
What we usually see at this stage
- 01
Movement lines
Visible when you smile, frown or raise your brows, and gone again when your face settles.
What this means: skin treatments will not do much here. If it is the main concern, the useful conversation is a different one.
- 02
Settled lines
Faint but present when the face is completely relaxed. Often around the eyes, across the forehead, or from nose to mouth.
What this means: this is where resurfacing and collagen stimulation earn their keep, and where starting earlier means needing less.
- 03
Crepey texture
Not really lines at all — a fine, papery quality, usually under the eyes or on the cheeks, that shows up most in photographs.
What this means: this is skin quality rather than ageing per se, and it often improves more than people expect.
Where movement lines are the main thing bothering you, that is a consultation with Dr Chahal about cosmetic injectables as a category, and it is discussed rather than sold.
What the assessment covers
- Which lines are present at rest and which only with movement
- 3D imaging, so next year you are comparing against data rather than memory
- Sun damage sitting under the surface, which usually drives more than people realise
- Skin hydration and barrier quality
- Your current skincare, and whether it is doing anything
- What you would like to look like in ten years, not just next month
At this stage the honest answer is often that less is needed than expected. If we think the right plan is skincare, sun protection and a review in a year, you will hear that.
Treatments we use
These build collagen and improve skin quality over months. None of them are a quick fix, and all of them work better the earlier they start.

Not everything on this list will be in your plan. Most people at this stage need two or three things done consistently, not seven.
A realistic first year
- Week 0Imaging and skincare
Baseline imaging, and getting the home routine right. For a lot of people this stage alone changes the picture.
- Months 1–3A short course
Usually three treatments spaced a few weeks apart, chosen for whichever lines you actually have.
- Months 3–6Where it shows
Collagen change becomes visible. We compare against your baseline images rather than asking you to recall.
- Year oneReassess and decide
Some people maintain, some pause. Either is fine, and you will have real images to decide with.

The case for doing less, earlier
Prevention is unglamorous and it is also the single best value thing in aesthetics. Skin that is looked after from the mid-thirties needs noticeably less intervention at fifty than skin that was ignored and then rescued.
Daily sun protection does more for fine lines than any device on our list. That is not us being modest, it is just true, and any plan that skips it is building on sand.
It also means we would rather start you on something small and consistent than sell you a large course you do not yet need.
Common questions
I am in my thirties. Is it too early to do anything?
No, and it is arguably the ideal window. The work at this stage is mostly about maintaining skin quality, which is far easier than reversing change later.
Will treatments get rid of my lines completely?
Settled lines soften rather than disappear. Texture and tone often improve more noticeably than the lines themselves, which is usually what makes the difference in photographs.
Do I need injectables?
That depends entirely on whether your concern is movement lines, and it is a separate conversation with Dr Chahal. Plenty of people at this stage do not need them.
How long before I see something?
Collagen treatments show meaningful change from around three months. Anything promising a visible difference next week is describing swelling, not collagen.
Is there downtime?
Usually a day or two of looking flushed, depending on the treatment. It is discussed before you book so you can plan around anything important.
What if I do nothing?
Nothing terrible happens quickly. Things change gradually, and starting later generally means needing more. That is the honest trade-off.
Start with an assessment
Imaging, a clear explanation of what is changing, and a plan that does not include things you do not need.
