Dermal fillers are undoubtedly one of the most popular and well-known aesthetic treatments on the market. They have a unique ability to effectively and reliably achieve cosmetic change while requiring a very minimally invasive process compared to surgical alternatives.

While dermal fillers encompass many different formulations, most tackle common skin concerns like volume loss, fine lines, and wrinkles. Since they are so versatile and reliable, dermal fillers are a treatment that The Centre for Medical Aesthetics is proud to offer to patients who are a good fit.

Our Philosophy

The Centre for Medical Aesthetics operates on one paramount tenet: your aesthetic journey is as important as any other medical venture you embark on. Your concerns aren’t “just cosmetic.” Aesthetic care is still care, and we promise to treat them with equal gravitas.

Why Might Someone Consider Dermal Fillers?

We have found that many of our patients are successfully turning to dermal fillers to address the following skin and ageing developments:

  • Volume Loss
  • Fine lines
  • Dynamic wrinkles
  • Static wrinkles
  • Asymmetry
  • Contour improvement

Dermal fillers can also increase volume in other parts of the face, such as the lips, cheeks, and around the nose and mouth.

Are Dermal Fillers Right for Me?

Summary:

  • Do you have preexisting conditions?
  • Do you have volume loss or wrinkles?
  • Do you have realistic expectations?
  • Have you done your due diligence?

The only way to know if dermal fillers are safe and appropriate is to schedule a consultation with a qualified medical aesthetic professional. They will consider your condition, medical history, and goals, and ultimately help you understand why dermal fillers are the best option.

Some patients have preexisting medical conditions that would not make them a good fit for dermal fillers, but may still be candidates for a different type of treatment that targets similar conditions. We also recommend that you do your due diligence in researching your potential treatment results so that you have clear expectations about what dermal fillers can achieve.

Understanding the Dermal Filler Process

At our practice, our first and foremost goal is to make sure you feel comfortable and confident about the decision to have a treatment performed. We won’t encourage you to have anything done that you aren’t ready for or undergo any procedure that we don’t think will ultimately get you closer to your ideal results.

A Consultation with The Centre for Medical Aesthetics

Summary:

  • We aren’t trying to sell you, we want to help and inform you.
  • Sometimes dermal fillers are a fit, sometimes they aren’t.
  • You should ask as many questions as possible, there is no time limit.
  • We are here to support you, regardless of whether you sign up for treatment.

Your consultation with us won’t feel like we are trying to convince you to have something done. Instead, we want to hear your goals and how you hope dermal fillers can help.

In many cases, a patient’s desires and the benefits that dermal fillers can provide can line up well, but if they don’t, we will be sure to tell you and offer alternatives — whether those alternatives include signing up for a service for us or not.

While visiting with us, we encourage you to ask as many questions as possible to be fully informed as you go through your decision-making process. Start writing them down in a notebook or your phone well beforehand. There is no rush — we will give you all the time you need.

If you decide against it — no worries, we are happy to support you if and when you ever decide to consider something different. Your medical care should never make you feel pressured, only comfortable and supported.

How to Prepare for Your Dermal Fillers

If you do decide to move forward, we will provide you with some information to help make sure your process goes as smoothly as possible.

You should avoid harsh skin treatments and excessive sun exposure since those can exacerbate any irritation that may develop. Clean skin on the day gives us the best canvas to help you achieve your cosmetic goals.

The Dermal Filler Process

Summary:

  • Treatments take about 30 minutes.
  • Your process will be as seamless as possible.
  • Great for working professionals or busy schedules.
  • Maintenance treatment will likely be necessary.

At our office, we can typically perform a dermal filler treatment in about 30 minutes, which means you can resume your usual routine without missing a beat. We know you have a busy life to get back to, and we do everything we can to ensure your experience is seamless.

This makes it a great option for individuals with fast-paced careers or busy schedules. Most patients will need to return for maintenance treatment every few months, but this depends largely on your unique condition and aesthetic goals.

Dermal Filler Results

Dermal fillers can show preliminary results immediately after injection, but final results usually show a few days after treatment. They can last anywhere from three to 12 months, depending on the type of filler and your body’s reaction to the formula. Maintenance treatments are required to maintain optimal results.

Let’s Talk: Frequently Asked Questions

Let’s Talk About Volume Loss

As our bodies go through the natural ageing process, there are a few impactful changes that happen. The first, and most detrimental to facial fullness, is the decline of fat and collagen in our tissue. As the distribution of fat throughout our bodies changes, our faces are often first to vacate its storage, leading to a seemingly sunken appearance that can be associated with age.

Collagen, on the other hand, is the most abundant protein in our body and is largely responsible for keeping the inner structure of our skin taut. While the reduction begins as early as age 20, the slowing of collagen production becomes progressively more noticeable around the same time people start to experience facial volume loss.

Let’s Talk About Fine Lines and Wrinkles

There are two types of wrinkles that can develop: static and dynamic. The difference lies both in when they are noticeable on the face and how they develop in the first place. Static wrinkles are typically omnipresent and can be caused primarily by developments like volume loss in the face or the decline of collagen structures. Smile lines and marionette lines are good examples of common static wrinkles.

However, dynamic wrinkles are only present when your face makes specific expressions. They are caused by repeated movement by different muscles in the face. It is common to experience dynamic wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal wrinkles on the forehead after lifting your eyebrows, and even lip lines when speaking.

What Are the Risks Associated with Dermal Fillers?

Some patients may experience swelling, pain, tenderness, itching, discolouration, bruising, lumps, bumps, firmness, or swelling. While these side effects are rare, you should always contact us if you develop these side effects just to make sure we can safely monitor them. These potential side effects also depend on which filler you have injected.
