Fine lines and wrinkles are the most prominent signs of ageing that we can develop. They are ubiquitous in ways that few other conditions are, and the desire to prevent or reverse them is almost equally as present. But, not all wrinkles are created equally — in fact, dynamic wrinkles, the kind that form during facial movement, can be difficult to address.
Unlike static wrinkles, dynamic wrinkles require special attention to the movement of the facial muscles. Anti-wrinkle injections are developed specifically for that purpose: they can stop the movement of specific muscles in the face without inhibiting the natural appearance.
Our Philosophy
The Centre for Medical Aesthetics operates on one paramount tenet: your aesthetic journey is as important as any other medical venture you embark on. Your concerns aren’t “just cosmetic.” Aesthetic care is still care, and we promise to treat them with equal gravitas. Why Might Someone Consider Anti-Wrinkle Injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections can address very specific types of wrinkles that develop as a consequence of facial movement. That includes:
- Frown lines
- Glabellar lines
- Crow’s feet
- Forehead wrinkles
- Bunny lines
- Chin dimpling
- Lipstick lines
- Smoker’s lines
- Marionette lines
- Bands around the neck
- Jawline sagging
- And more
Are Anti-Wrinkle Injections Right for Me?
Summary:
- Are you interested in stopping dynamic lines on the face?
- Do you have realistic expectations about what anti-wrinkle injections can achieve?
- Have you done a thorough amount of research on anti-wrinkle injections?
- Do you have any preexisting conditions that might impact your results?
- Have you ever reacted poorly to injections or needle-based treatments?
If you are experiencing wrinkles specifically caused by facial movements, then anti-wrinkle injections might help you get closer to your aesthetic goals. However, it is important to be particular about the wrinkles you want to address during your consultation so we can determine that they are dynamic and not static.
You should also clearly understand exactly what we can achieve with anti-wrinkle injections. Make sure to do plenty of independent research in addition to your consultation process and look at as many before and after images as possible. This will help you have realistic expectations for your results and prevent you from being disappointed by what would otherwise be considered a successful procedure.
Let us know as soon as possible if you have any preexisting conditions or if you have ever had negative reactions to injectables or other needles. Your safety comes first; and we want to ensure you have the best possible experience.
Understanding the Anti-Wrinkle Injections Process
At our practice, our first and foremost goal is to make sure you feel comfortable and confident about the decision to have a treatment performed. We won’t encourage you to have anything done that you aren’t ready for or undergo any procedure that we don’t think will ultimately get you closer to your ideal results.

A Consultation with The Centre for Medical Aesthetics
Summary:
- We want to help you achieve your goals, not sign you up for treatment at any cost.
- Your consultation is your best resource on this journey.
- Even if you don’t sign up for anti-wrinkle treatment, we are here for you.
We are patient-focused to our core at TCMA. This means our primary goal isn’t to sell you on one of our treatments, it is to help you get as close as possible to your preferred aesthetic. If we do not think anti-wrinkle injections are a good path forward for you, then we won’t recommend them. We will either find you an alternative or let you know another option that doesn’t require treatment from us.
That said, you should always look to make the most of your consultation. It is your chance to ask as many questions as you can, and we always recommend writing them down ahead of time so you don’t skip them in all the excitement. And, no sweat — even if you don’t sign up for a treatment, we still want you to know we are here for you throughout your journey.
How to Prepare for Your Anti-Wrinkle Injections
You will not need to make any lengthy preparations for your anti-wrinkle injection. Come with a clean face free from sun damage, and you will be ready for treatment in most cases. If there are any specific preparations you need to make, our team will let you know about it well in advance. It is important to communicate regularly with our team so we can make sure you have all the information and preparation you need.
The Anti-Wrinkle Injections Process
Summary:
- Your face will be thoroughly cleaned before the procedure begins.
- A small needle will be placed into your tissue at the targeted muscle.
- A small amount of the anti-wrinkle substance will be injected into that muscle.
- This process is repeated until all the targeted muscles have been treated.
- The entire process will take between 30 and 45 minutes.
Dr Amy and the TCMA staff are highly trained and experienced in anti-wrinkle injections. They are industry leaders and educators in many techniques, and because of that, having treatment performed by them means you are giving yourself a higher chance of success.
The first step is to thoroughly clean the targeted areas. Once that is finished, a small needle will be placed into your tissue and the muscle responsible for creating the dynamic line on the face. The substance in the treatment blocks the communication between the brain and the muscle itself, making it impossible for that muscle to move.
This process is repeated throughout highly precise points on the face. By using this level of precision, we can drastically reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles without preventing natural expression from showing. It is only in cases that are overdone and unmeasured that faces appear frozen entirely.
But when performed by a professional, that unnatural look can be avoided and the entire procedure can be performed in as little as 30 to 45 minutes, making it a great option for busy schedules.
Anti-Wrinkle Injections Results
Anti-wrinkle injections provide two tiers of results to our patients: immediate and over time. Since the muscle is immediately prevented from moving, the development of those wrinkles is dramatically reduced as soon as the injections are complete.
But as the skin on the face starts to smooth out from a lack of wrinkle triggering, patients will likely also notice a long-term improvement to the face, meaning that results are likely to show even if treatment is discontinued. Of course, this doesn’t prevent the formation of those wrinkles from developing again, but it is still possible to achieve long-term improvement even if they aren’t permanent.

Let’s Talk: Frequently Asked Questions
What Risks Are Associated with Anti-Wrinkle Injections?
Some individuals may experience allergic reactions, characterized by itching, redness, or swelling at the injection site. Common side effects also include bruising and pain at the injection site, and there’s a rare risk of infection. In some cases, the toxin may inadvertently affect surrounding muscles, leading to drooping eyelids or eyebrows, which is typically temporary but can be concerning for patients.
Additionally, headaches or flu-like symptoms can occur post-treatment, and there is the rare but serious risk of difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing if the toxin spreads to muscles involved in these functions.
While facial asymmetry might result from uneven muscle relaxation, this and other side effects are significantly reduced when treatments are performed by experienced medical professionals like those at TCMA. Ensuring that the practitioner has a comprehensive understanding of facial anatomy and maintaining open communication about any pre-existing conditions or concerns can help mitigate these risks.
Are There Any Post-Treatment Instructions to Follow?
You should avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas for at least 24 hours to prevent the injected substance from spreading to unintended muscles and remain upright for 2 to 4 hours post-treatment to reduce the risk of product migration. Strenuous physical activities and exposure to heat sources like direct sunlight, saunas, and hot tubs should be avoided for the first 24 to 48 hours. While staying hydrated is beneficial, alcohol consumption should be avoided for at least 24 hours before and after treatment to decrease the likelihood of bruising.
